Zetsu’s Background
Zetsu’s origin was shrouded in mystery for a long time, until it was revealed in the later stages of the series. He was actually one of the victims of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, the progenitor of chakra and the ultimate antagonist of the series.
Kaguya was a princess from another world, who came to Earth and ate the fruit of the God Tree, a gigantic tree that absorbed the life force of the planet. She gained immense power and chakra, and became the first person to wield it. She used her power to end the wars that plagued the world, and was revered as a goddess by the people.
However, Kaguya became paranoid and greedy, and feared that her power would be taken away by others. She used her power to cast the Infinite Tsukuyomi, a genjutsu that trapped everyone in a dream world, where they would be happy and peaceful.
She then used the God Tree to absorb their chakra and create a new fruit, which she intended to eat and gain more power. Black Zetsu was created by Kaguya before she was sealed away by her two sons, Hagoromo and Hamura Ōtsutsuki, the founders of ninshū and the ancestors of the shinobi clans.
Black Zetsu’s goal was to revive Kaguya and restore her power, and he manipulated the history of the shinobi world to achieve this. He pulled Zetsu and other White Zetsu from the God Tree, and used them as his pawns and spies.
