Who is Oga?

Ōga is a female character who appears in the Boruto anime, which is a spin-off of Naruto Shippuden. She is a former Inner of Kara, which means she was one of the core members of the organization.

Kara is a group of rogue ninjas who seek to use the power of the Ten-Tails, a monstrous creature that contains the chakra of all the tailed beasts, to create a new world order. Kara’s leader is Jigen, a man who is possessed by the Otsutsuki clan, an ancient alien race that harvests planets for their chakra.

Ōga was created by Amado, a scientist who works for Kara, as the eighth Inner. She was supposed to be a research partner for Amado’s experiments on the human heart, but when she tried to investigate Jigen’s heart, he considered it a betrayal and attacked her.

He destroyed part of her brain, which caused her to lose her will to live and her body to deteriorate. She escaped from Kara and went into hiding, where she began to abduct people from the Thunder Rail, a train system that connects different regions of the world.

What are Oga’s abilities?

Ōga is a skilled ninja who can use various techniques. She is proficient in lightning release, which allows her to manipulate electricity and create powerful attacks. She can also use yin release, which enables her to create illusions and manipulate the minds of others.

She uses these abilities to create a genjutsu, or a false reality, that traps her victims in a labyrinth game. The game is designed to test the survival instincts of the participants, and force them to act on their desires. Oga secretly takes part in the game as well, hoping to regain her desire to live by witnessing the struggles of others.

Ōga also uses a puppet technique, which allows her to control a mechanical doll that resembles a male ninja. She uses this puppet as a disguise and calls herself Yatsume. She befriends Boruto Uzumaki, the son of Naruto, and joins him in the game.

She acts as a friendly and helpful ally, but she also manipulates the events of the game to make them more challenging and dangerous. She reveals her true identity and motives to Boruto after he manages to overcome the game and save everyone.

Oga’s Personality

Oga is an eccentric, if not amoral woman. Following her brain injury, she found herself without a drive in life, or even the desire to live. Hoping to restore that desire, she was willing to abduct and manipulate several people to reach her goal, and is very methodical and intricate in her designs.

Oga considers herself more refined than other Kara Inners because she doesn’t actually kill anyone, merely keeping them in suspended animation. Her outlook on life-and-death struggles was that people are always instinctively driven to save themselves, inevitably causing conflict with others.

She found Boruto’s desire to survive different from what she saw in others, which he attributed to seeing it as having dreams instead of desires. Boruto’s unrelenting desire to save everyone, even Ōga after she revealed her plot, caused her to blush and sparked in her a dream she chose not to reveal.

While posing as Yatsume, she acted quite friendly, greeting Boruto after he saved Shamo from falling to his death. When Boruto leapt back down to the crumbling floor to rescue the others, Yatsume attempted to talk him out of it, worried about him dying.

When Boruto nearly failed to save himself and Shamo, Yatsume climbed down the ladder and saved his life, showing her compassion despite them having just met each other.

While willing to cooperate with Boruto, she does see the merit in Batta’s more selfish approach, not dismissing it immediately. She was quite emotional when she saw how much everyone wanted to survive during the “Calculation” experiment.

Oga’s Appearance

Ōga is a young girl of average height and fair complexion with big, red eyes. She has long, brown hair reaching her lower back. As an Inner, she had the Roman numeral of “Ⅷ” tattooed on her forehead and wears grey robes.

While masquerading as “Yatsume”, her hair is done up in an intricate style: she has ox horns on both sides with tight braids under them and two thick antennae hanging over her face. She wears a white bandanna to cover her Inner tattoo, a light blue, clipped-shut jacket, and black shorts.

While masquerading as an old man, both with genjutsu and a puppet, she appeared as short and heavily wrinkled with a light complexion. The disguise also has a wide smile with several missing upper teeth, pupilless green eyes, scraggy white hair reaching his lower back with a long white beard. It wears brown cloths and a red cap with a yellow tongue and white wings on the side.

What is Oga’s role in the story?

Ōga is a minor antagonist who appears in the Labyrinth Game Arc, which is a filler arc that takes place between episodes 275 and 279 of the Boruto anime. She is the main villain of the arc, and she poses a threat to Boruto and his friends, who are investigating the disappearances of the Thunder Rail passengers. She also provides some insight into the workings of Kara and the Otsutsuki clan, as she reveals some information about Jigen and his plans.

Oga is also a foil to Boruto, as she represents a contrast to his personality and values. While Ōga is cynical and nihilistic, Boruto is optimistic and hopeful. While Ōga believes that people are driven by selfish desires, Boruto believes that people have dreams and aspirations.

While Oga tries to manipulate and harm others, Boruto tries to help and protect others. Boruto’s actions and words eventually inspire Ōga to change her outlook on life, and she develops a crush on him. She decides to let him go and stop her experiments, and she even expresses a wish to see him again.

Oga’s Abilities

As a former Inner of Kara whose body was modified with Scientific Ninja Tools by Amado, Oga was regarded as being completely monstrous in terms of power and ability. However, only her brain was augmented, and she doesn’t consider herself suited for combat.

She is fairly strong physically, able to hold Boruto’s and Shamo’s combined weight with just one hand, and has quick reflexes and great agility, being able to rapidly climb down a ladder and grab Boruto’s hand before he could fall to his death. She has a keen sense of smell, smelling blood on Rokuro.

Ōga is a skilled puppeteer, able to manipulate one disguised from a far. She has proficiency in Lightning Release, able to flow it into her weapons. She can use Yin Release to project life-like images of people from afar, and while keeping herself and her targets under suspended animation, she can create a seamless experience with many intricate scenarios, maintaining them through a scroll, whether her targets are together or apart in it. Should any of them realise they’re in a genjutsu, she can quickly layer another one to deceive them into believing they have broken it.

What is Oga’s fate?

Ōga’s fate is left ambiguous at the end of the arc. She tells Boruto that she will stop her experiments and leave the Thunder Rail, but she also says that her body is breaking down and she doesn’t have much time left. She gives Boruto a farewell kiss and disappears into the shadows.

It is unknown if she dies or survives, or if she ever meets Boruto again. She is not mentioned or seen in the later episodes of the anime, and she does not appear in the manga or the novels. She is a unique character who only exists in the anime, and her story is left unresolved.
