Pikachu’s Appearance

Pikachu is a small, chubby, and incredibly cute mouse like Pokémon which is covered almost completely by yellow fur. It has long yellow ears that are tipped with black. A Pikachu’s back has two brown stripes, and its large tail is notable for being shaped like a lightning bolt.

On its cheeks are two circle shaped red pouches used for storing electricity, they turn yellow and spark with electricity when its about to use an Electric attack such as Thunderbolt.

A female Pikachu looks almost exactly the same as a male, with the exception of her tail. A female Pikachu’s tail is rounded at the end and has an inward dent, giving it the appearance of a heart. This, however, is only true in the Nintendo games.

Throught most of the anime and in previous games, female and male Pikachu’s look identical. Like Pichu, Pikachu store most of their electricity within the red areas of their cheeks.

It can be seen with small surges of electric energy whenever a Pikachu gets protective, mad, etc. When several of these Pokemon gather, their electricity can cause lightening storms.

Pikachu’s Origin

Pikachu’s debut appearance as a developed character was in the Pokémon animated series. Pikachu is best known as one of the main protagonists within the animated Pokémon series.

Pikachu’s popularity established when he partnered up with a human companion named Ash Ketchum as the unusual starter Pokémon of the Kanto Region, in the anime series of the same name.

As Ash’s choosing of Pokémon were all taken up, the alternative was chosen and thus given Pikachu in advance, leaving the young Pokémon Trainer with unbeknownst acknowledgement of the creature’s prior nature.

Pikachu is one of the original 150 Pokémon seen in Pokémon Red and Blue, and is also the starting Pokémon in the Yellow Version.

Pikachu is registered as #25 in the National Pokédex.

Pikachu’s Evolution

Seeing as Pikachu refers to a species more than an individual character it is very difficult the say how they have developed over time, although it can be noted how certain individual Pikachu have grown as characters, for example Ash Ketchum’s Pikachu was Ash’s first Pokemon and originally chose to ignore and disobey orders given by it’s new trainer.

But following events that involved an attack by a flock of Spearow and seeing how Ash was willing to put himself in harms way to keep Pikachu safe, it had a change of heart and in turn risked itself to save Ash and ever after the two had created a close and unbreakable friendship.

And though not technically character development there is an ‘Evolution’ the Pikachu as a species dose go through. Like many other Pokemon Pikachu can undergo a sudden metamorphosis as it grows or meets specific circumstances, changing into a creature that is faster and stronger.

Like all Pokemon The first stage of Pikachu’s evolutionary line, Pichu, is hatched from an egg. As Pichu grows and if it reaches a point were it is incredibly happy Pichu will then proceed to evolve into a Pikachu.

For Pikachu to reach it final form of Raichu it must first come into contact with a Thunderstone. Whilst Raichu may be the final stage of the Evolutionary chain there is a drawback of reaching this stage as unlike Pikachu a Raichu cannot learn any new moves via leveling up.

Pikachu’s Personality

Despite his small size, Pikachu is one of Ash’s most dependable and strongest partners. Whenever Ash isn’t around, Pikachu takes a leadership position for the team. He is curious, smart, friendly, and shares Ash’s fondness for battling.

Pikachu is a very determined Pokémon and unwilling to give up in tough situations. He is responsible and often looks after younger Pokémon, particularly Misty’s Togepi, who he is often forced to shepherd out of danger.

Although stubborn at times, he obeys Ash’s commands in battle and rarely leaves his side. Pikachu is also a constant target for Team Rocket. They try to capture him, but on the few occasions that they do, their plans are always thwarted by Ash and his friends.

Pikachu will often use his Electric type attacks to escape danger or traps, with Thunderbolt being one of his most common moves. He is very swift in battles as well. He can also imitate some Pokémon by making their face shapes.

Like Ash, Pikachu has a love for science and technology, even if he cannot understand most of it. Pikachu might be oblivious to the concept of love, as seen when Dawn’s Buneary tried to flirt with him.

Pikachu doesn’t like being in his Poké Ball one bit, hates someone pulling on his tail (and being followed very closely). He likes riding on Ash’s head or shoulder.

He has a strong rivalry with most Raichu, his evolved form. In the Sun and Moon series, during the pancake race, Pikachu wanted to defeat an Alolan Raichu. The prime example of this rivalry is when Lt.

Surge’s Raichu defeats and injures Pikachu in the first season of the anime. This also carries to Sho’s Raichu who also overpowers all of Pikachu’s abilities such as his Iron Tail and Volt Tackle. In these battles, Ash and Pikachu usually have to use unconventional strategies to win.

Even in the face of losses to Raichu and other strong Pokémon, Pikachu refuses to evolve, wanting to become stronger just as he is. This trait is later shared by his best friend, Dawn’s Piplup, who also given the chance to evolve, but also refuses and is given an Everstone to prevent it.
